Fallacy

What is a fallacy?

a mistaken belief, especially one based on unsound arguments.

  • Bandwagon Fallacy

In this fallacy people generally conclude that a proposition must be true because many or most people believe it.
    • Example:-  People are more likely to vote for the candidate that they think is winning.
  • The Appeal to Authority Fallacy

In this fallacy the opinion of an authority on a topic is used as evidence to support an argument.
    • Example:- A commercial claims that a specific brand of cereal is the best way to start the day because athlete Michael Jordan says that it is what he eats every day for breakfast.
  • The Hasty Generalization Fallacy

In The Hasty Generalization Fallacy people jump to conclusions reached on the basis of one or a few instances of that phenomenon.
    • Example:- When I was young, my dad and brothers never helped with the household chores.
